How to create a printable book
from a PDF or other document type
Products
required in this tip are:
PDF Imposition DE , PDF
Page Numberer SA , Adobe Acrobat
Full version or PrimoPDF
Also require: Duplex Printer (Printer
that can print both sides of the paper, you could print each page
separately and put the paper back in if you don't have a duplex printer)
1. Ok so you have your book ready to convert into
a book printable format, the main cause of problems doing this is number
of pages, the number of pages needs to be divisible by 4 because each
piece of paper has 2 pages in the front and 2 pages on the back in 2up
format. e.g.
So make sure your number of pages is correct and make
sure the first page is the cover and the back page is the back cover.
Another problem is page numbers, most software can't
start and stop page numbers at a certain page in the document. So we use
PDF Page Numberer SA todo this rather than in the document, so remove
all page numbers if you have this issue and follow below. if
you do have page numbers in the correct pages then skip step 2

Convert your book to PDF format, if you have Adobe Installed then you
can do this by printing to the Adobe PDF Printer driver, if you don't
then use Primo PDF which is free to use. you should have a
pdf like this (1 page for every page) e.g.

Download & Install PDF Page Numberer SA, download
location:
http://www.traction-software.co.uk/downloads/PDFPageNumSA.zip
Start the software and put the source PDF in the In file
and put the out pdf as a new file e.g. myfile-numbered.pdf
To add page numbers in a bottom of page central position
setup like below (All settings circled in red are important), you can
change this to right or left or alternate of page also (use nth option)
if you need to - see settings below.
The Page to start processing at: is the first page number
of the PDF to add page numbers to.
You will need to set the end page as for example you will not want page
numbers on the back cover.
Once setup click 'Apply
Text'
Now click View to view the
output file and check the document in Adobe Reader.
3. To 2up the pages so they are in booklet print
ready format

Use the Page numbered file as the source file, setup like
below:-
Click the A/B 2up (Duplex) button and setup like below
for Outer-In:-
Once all setup Click Impose button, once processed click
the View button for the output file or Open it in Adobe Reader... it
should be in 2up format like below.
4. Printing
To print the PDF correctly ideally you need a Duplex
printer to print both sides in one go otherwise it is more time
consuming to print as you will need to print each page separately and
re-insert the paper for the other side.
Open the booklet print ready PDF in Adobe and select
print
Setup your Duplex printer like below:-
Duplex options select print landscape and Flip on Short
Edge like below.
Click
OK to Print!
