Getting Started
| Ok presuming you've just installed Traction CD Menu Creator, you should have 2 icons on your desktop with the Traction CD Menu logo, like the below left screen shot. |
| the 'CD Menu' Icon is for getting familiar with the operation and controls, Version information & HTML Help, |
screen shot below.

Using The Example CD Menu To Create Your Own
| Now let's move on to creating your first new CD Menu, in this walk-thru example I will use the 'Example CD Menu' but you can start a new one anywhere you want by copying the cdmenu.exe in the installation directory c:\program files\Traction Software\ to any location. | |
| Click on 'Example CD Menu' icon, you should see a screen like the below. |

| Ok say you want to change category Utilities To MP3's, here's what you do:- left click on Utilities tab then right click on the tab, an "Amend Tab Name" window will appear like the picture below. |

| in the edit box where 'Utilities' is type 'MP3s' then press the Save/Exit button, you will see the changes on the main screen. | |
| Right we want to add some files, make sure all the files are located in directories under the cdmenu.exe location this will make CD Writing a lot easier later on, see below example, by default the path location is C:\Program Files\Traction Software\CD To Write\ |

Your files will be located in MP3s, Games, Appz etc

| Ok Back to the CDMenu Program, To Add files to CDMenu List, left mouse click on the desired tab to add files to first (MP3s in this example), left mouse click and hold the file you wish to add in explorer then drag it over into the CDMenu Program list view window, you should see a '+' sign when dragging into the window, this means it's acceptable type of file, if you see a 'O' with a '/' through it then this is not a acceptable file type. | |
| Keep repeating the above until all your files are there, then press 'r' key to resize columns to content to make it look better, see example below. |

|
Repeat above with all tabs/categories until happy with content, double click on the items to make sure they are working as expected. |
|
|
If you wish to change the properties - names/descriptions of files right mouse click on any item, the below will appear. |

Click done when finished.
Adding Graphics To Make It Look Better
| Adding a backround bitmap, Click on the first tab 'Applications' then select Load Background Bitmap For Current Tab as the screenshot below. |

You will see a screen like the below, select bluewave.bmp in C:\Program files\Traction Software\ directory

double click on file, then you will the below.

click Yes button, this copies the bmp into your CD Creation Path directory.
The Screenshot below shows the background change.

| Now adding a bitmap to the left of the main screen, click the first tab 'Applications' and in the menu bar select Tab/Load Left Bitmap For Current Tab, this will open a file dialog for selecting your BMP file, all bit resolutions are supported so find your picture and click Open, (use cdmenu1.bmp in C:\Program files\Traction Software\ directory for example) Then Click yes again to copy to CD Path Directory, You will now see the picture attached at the side of the screen, if it's a bit too big width wise try adjusting it in Setup/Globals menu width of bitmap area, this is automatically set on the first bitmap imported. see example screen shot below. |

Changing the List Background/Text Colors.
|
To change the list background colors select 'Change List Background Color For Current Tab' from the Tab Menu. (in the example i selected dark blue) |
|
|
To Change the list Text color select 'Change Text Color For Current Tab' from the Tab Menu, (In the example i selected White.) |
Your finished product will look like the below.

How To Write To CD
| Use your CD Writing Software and make sure you only add files from the ROOT folder. i.e. C:\Program Files\Traction Software\CD To Write\ - So CDMenu.exe etc are in no directory but are in the CD Root Folder Once Written to CD, e.g. f:\ see screen shot below. |

Once written to CD
|
Also as CDMenu always tries to run the Hard Disk path first, Once written to CD rename your dir path i.e. 'CD To Write' to 'CD To Write-old' then the files will run off the CD. |
Other Ways Of Creating CD Menu's within other Directories
| For other CD creation directories: use the export in the drop down menu to export the cdmenu.exe, cdmenu.ini & relevant bitmaps to the CD Foler that you are going to write. | |
| Or alternatively copy the the CDMenu.exe ,CDMenu.ini and Autorun.inf in install folder, usually C:\Program Files\Traction Software\CD To Write\ into the ROOT area of the CD Folder that you are going to write. (see Help for more information if required), e.g. d:\mycd | |
| Make sure you run it once for it to adjust the run paths ready to be written to CD. | |
| Use your usual CD Writing Software and make sure you only include the ROOT folder. i.e. d:\mycd\ like in this example. |
Problems Getting it to work from CD ?
| You can't add files from different paths and expect it to work once written to CD, Reason for this is because CD Writing software can change the directory structure to your liking, CD Menu creator has no way of knowing these last minute changes whilst writing to CD. | |
| Also as CDMenu always tries to run from the Hard Disk path first, Once written to CD rename your dir path i.e. 'CD To Write' to 'CD To Write-old' then the files will run off the CD. |
